Excerpt:

This little matsuri (festival) is a very small, local affair, with a small stage for the taiko drums and dancers to do their thang. Some of the more popular dances saw spontaneous rings of people dancing in a circle around the outside of the stage.

Post Title: Asashoryu

Excerpt: Yesterday was the opening day of the January 2006 Sumo Grand Tournament at the Ryogoku Kokugikan. This is the current undefeatable yokozuna (champion), Mongolion Asashoryu doing his official opening ritual to open the Rikishi (upper rankings) part of the Tournament. More to come. Right now I'm off to the onsen with Kat and Darin who got back from their Queensland road trip on Saturday. Last night I ate a real Bowen mango. That will mean nothing to anyone except Queenslanders stranded in deep winters far away from summer. It was utterly delicious. Tags: japan, sumo, asashoryu...
