Oh shite, whose bright idea was it to have an exhibition? I've just realised I know NOTHING about how to produce and exhibit a photo exhibition. Yeah, yeah, I got all the nice papers and stuff, chosen the pics, bought the lovely frames.... now I find that different print settings on different papers radically alter the photos appearance and I can't decide which ones I like best, and half the frames I bought need to be re-matted to fit the photo sizes and... and.... and... oh crap. I'm in a not-so-mild panic. With only 3 more nights - with 2 fullish teaching days between now and Saturday eve -, I don't see myself getting a lot of sleep. It's all been pretty cool in terms of learning - just wish I had more time. But don't we always. Hope I can pull all this off by Saturday evening. Wish me luck!
wish i could do something to help - but am down in shizuoka till friday (woo...is that tomorrow?)
and then saturday's mad suitcase packing/hangover day...
if it's worth anything (not much though) i am sending you highly energetic & caffeinated thoughts to get you to saturday...
Ooh yah, photo printing can be a beyotch! Your monitor calibration looks different than paper, you've got no idea which settings will produce what. I've been through that too. I'm sure whatever you pick, your audience will love. (And remember, they don't know what the other color settings look like ;)
no pressure yo. only hundreds of people will look at your photos and comment about them. btw, so you need 5 stars eh....three for the front, one for the back and one more for the face....i see. ha! you set that one up perfectly. hughie and like 50 others said they'd come saturday too. again, no pressure. if youre setting up on friday early afternoon, maybe i can swing by mikorin's before heading to work.
Luck to you!
Isn't it great to scare the living shit out of yourself...the showing was a great idea I can feel the giddy rush of adrenaline and sleep deprivation oozing from your post! Go girl!

Dearest Auntie Marty,
Obviously it's too late for this show but I would love to share my knowledge with you. I have learned a shitload getting my prints done for my show coming up (I know they are illustration but the go to print as .psd's so all the same really). Do you have a professional printer? Are you printing at home? Really if you don't have a professional machine the inks cannot be guaranteed anymore than 50 years, and if you are not using archival acid free mount board even less. The key is to get a professional printer. I used PGlab when in Japan and they were fantastic. At 3000 yen per A4 it's an absolute steal, and they will print to all your specifications, they will do a test strip and you will tell them how you want your works to look. Believe me from my experience the world of digital print is a truly scaring and confusing place. All manner of things can and do go wrong... my Dad's a printer and I have grown up hearing the stories. Be happy to supply you with all I have learnt so far, I also have a bunch of books I can recommend on the subject and know three digital photographers here who would be happy help you too. Don't forget if you hadn't exhibited you would be none the wiser, it's all a learning curve and I am so proud you are getting it out into the world, your photos are truly wonderful, sensitive and thought provoking so take a deep breath and then go, go, go!
Thanks for all your support folks, it's all coming together, slowly but surely. I've left the panic room and returned to the excitement dome.
The prints are all complete and looking beautiful (I LOVE cotton rag paper! And yes, it's acid free and archival), and now I'm learning how to cut photo mats. Now, that's an interesting process, and strangely, I'm getting off on using my hands and tools again. It's been a while...
I wonder if it's safe to have a glass of wine as I'm working? Think I may just have to.
Yes good luck. I've been reading your blog for just over a year now and always been too shy to comment... I found it while searching for 'Wild at Heart Tattoo Parlour' in Brisbane where I got my tattoo done. And I'm almost positive that when I went to book my appointment, your friend Aureole was there tattooing someone.
I love your photos and the way you write. And I thought it was high time I acknowledged that. :)
I know what you mean about being busy and trying to do photo work at the same time. I can`t write this post for example in the great phylosophical way I wanted due to a teaching job in 15mins and my family`s early arrival home. Never seem to have time and the creative side is being squeezed ever more into the momemtary edges of my other life. But, anyway good luck with the show, your pics look good I`m sure you will sell some.

M,
I can agree wholeheartedly with everything you said in this posting.....glad you made it through opening night and it's all up and running and selling.....
It's educational huh? And who the ** made me think it was a good idea in the first place to do a show....(oh, yeah, me...)
