TELL me about TOKYO

Tell Me About Tokyo Book

The Tokyo English Lifeline (TELL) is a non-profit community organisation that offers a range of counseling options, from anonymous phone counseling to professional, face to face counselling. I've done a bit of volunteer photography work for them from time to time and my friend Christian is one of the few PAID workers there - he coordinates the volunteers and does a lot of their PR and stuff. Anyway, a year ago TELL started compiling a handy list of useful information and contacts for the English speaking community in Tokyo and recently they released the information in a handy little book called “Tell me about Tokyo”:

The TELL Directory is an easy to carry, useful and concise guide to everything Tokyoites need – in English! Searching for big shoes? Need to send things home? How about a vegetarian restaurant? And if the going gets tough, the listings in the TELL Directory will make sure you are not alone. The directory lists everything from English speaking medical professionals and lawyers, international schools and government departments to shopping, eating and getting around Tokyo.

Listings include:
Emergencies
Medical
Counseling
Legal
Daily Living
Transportation
Education
Government Offices
Housing
Work and Employment
Religion
Support Groups
Only 1,000 yen per copy
(tax included, shipping & handling fees applicable)

To order, please contact the TELL Business Office at event@telljp.com or (03) 3498-0261.

And why am I talking about this? Well, I took the picture used for the poster. That's Christians sexy ass-pocket you can see the book poking out of. We took the picture in Harajuku one crazy Sunday a while back. Anyway, I got a copy of the book then Charlene took one look at it and bought it off me to use for her daily work as the Concierge at the Okura Hotel. It's a great book, really useful, and I heartily recommend it for every English speaking foreigner in Tokyo.

In other news, yes, I know the photography gallery is down, working on it as I post this. Had a stupid amount of manholes-of-japan-gallery traffic lately - that's why you intermittently see the “site is down, contact billing” page - it's not actually a problem with billing but with a crashing server. And the odd hack attack but fortunately my hosts are pretty savvy with all that stuff and have managed to stave off the assholes. Regardless, the site has been really buggy lately. If you have any troubles with anything (I know there have been some problems with posting comments recently), please shoot me an email. Thanks.

Went to see The Album Leaf again last night. Holy shit, they really are an amazing band. This was the bands third tour, and each time they've played progressively bigger venues. Last nights show at the Liquid Room was packed. Jimmy went upstairs to the merch stand after the gig and caused a near riot as crowds tried to get their stuff signed. It was really funny. Here's a pic:

Aren't The Album Leaf awesome? I saw them just recently at Chop Suey in Seattle with Lymbyc System and some other opening band. Very nice show! I listen to their albums all day long at work to soothe me... ^_^

I miss Tokyo (and someday plan to return) so I might just have to find a copy of that book. Is it for sale anywhere in the states?

Hi Numine - I doubt it's for sale over there, you may have to wait till you get back to Tokyo next time. They plan to update it fairly regularly so it's probably best to wait till you get here and use the most current version... and ah, yes. The Album Leaf. Just beautiful, ne.
