The student reports...

Hello hello! Feels like ages since I sat down at the computer to blog but it's only been 3 days. Crazy.

The gastro bug has been drugged into submission but flares up with coffee and beer so I'm having a very erm... pure time. And a very good time. The course is great, I've already learned heaps and generally speaking the trainers and other students (28 in total) are great people. There are 3 others from Japan, one of them from Tokyo - all of them teachers already, like me. Quite a few other teachers doing the course actually, living in not just Japan but also Hong Kong, The Canary Islands, Vietnam.... I was worried that I'd be the oldest, and that I'd be surrounded by a bunch of painfully young, wide-eyed college kids but I am happy to report that I am far from being the oldest, and the average age would be around 30-ish, the youngest being 19. Funny, we almost all had the same fear... (of course, there are a few ditzy college kids, one of whom I've nicknamed Britney because of her utter preciousness and Mouseketeer star quality - her first presentation to the group was a description about um.... shotgunning beer with your frat club at an American Football game.... )

The course itself keeps us really busy, and it seems we really will only have weekends to ourselves. We have homework study assignments to keep us busy after hours, and prac. teaching and lesson preparation in the late afternoon and early evenings. The mornings are spent in “input sessions” that cover all practical aspects of English teaching. It's really cool. And the best part is that everyone doing the course is really earnestly into it. At $1500 USD you'd wanna be, I guess.

Not much else to report other than the food is great, weathers OK, and everything is crazy cheap, so I'm gonna try to reply to these emails.... Ciao for now, friends.

Good to hear the course is beginning well for you and sounds like your classmates are a good bunch of people. Hope you get over the yukky gastro stuff too. Enjoy the tropical weather for me!!

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are you studying?? Would be interested to know about the course and how you found out about it!!

A great way to spend your vacation - in the sun as well as a level up for your career.

I'm doing a Certificate of TESOL (teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course. Found it through the internet. The battery is about to die in my laptop so will explain more later....
