Ah yes, Phuket Belly. Or should that be Puke-it Belly? Yep, first night in Phuket, out drinking with some of my new classmates, drank beer with ice. Woke up with what I thought was a surprisingly bad hangover. After my third fairly violent vomit, it became apparent that the beer really had nothing to do with how bad I was feeling. Spent the entire weekend in bed, with cramping, fevers, some diarrhea and a lot of vomiting. The staff of the hotel took me to see a doctor this morning, he loaded me up with antibiotics and rehydrating fluids and I finally was able to eat a solid meal tonight. Classes start tomorrow, hope I'm back to full strength.

In other news, Phuket is not what I imagined. It's no sleepy little seaside tourist town. It's a bloody big, bustling place with streets crammed with overloaded scooters, tuk-tuk's trucks and 4 wheel drives. It took me a good 30 minutes to walk into town from the hotel, I walked around for 2 hours and barely saw half the downtown area. So much for scooting down to the beach for a swim before classes! But it is a really interesting place, with a great history and some cool architecture. I'm going to enjoy it here.

I met about 10 or so people from the course already, we went out drinking together and I was relieved to see none of them had two heads. This bodes well for the coming month.

Ugh. you have my sympathies honey - I loathe the travellers bug, it's NASTY! I always arm myself with norfloxacin (to combat the diarrhea)& Maxalon (for the nausea & vomiting) when travelling in Asia. I know this contradicts my studies but sometimes pharmies are good! Nan Gua Zi (dried Pumpkin Seeds and husk)are a good pre-caution against parasites if you can get them. Also oil of Oregano is a good travellers companion - it has antiviral, antibacterial, & antifungal properties. Thwart those darn microbes! Let's hope you won't have a re-occurence.

enjoy the course. lots of love.
