Showa Kinen Koen is a massive recreational park in Tachikawa - I've mentioned it before and well, I'm sure I'll talk about it some more in the future coz it is an excellent place to go for an entire day of fun and games. I spent the day there yesterday with Charlene, Tamara, Katherine and Tyler.

We hired bikes to get around again (the place is really enormous), but this time I got a tandem bike to ride with Tamara who, little spaz that she is, has never learned to ride a bike.... Can you believe that there are people out there who cannot ride bikes? She's the second person (non-Japanese) I've met since coming to Japan who can't ride. Anyway, it was my first go on a tandem bike but I figured it'd be pretty easy, and after a shaky start with lots of squealing and yelling, we managed a really good rhythm and whizzed around to the very rockin' kids section at the bottom of the park to the Cloud Forest trampoline complex, then onto the pool.

Highlights of the day:

Riding a tandem bike around dedicated bike paths
Photographing the jumpers on the trampolines
Floating in the current pool at the Rainbow Pool complex
Getting a photograph of Tyler surrounded by 4 very sexy bikini clad women

Things I want to do next time:
Play frisbee golf
Have a BBQ picnic
Float around in the pool in a floatie with a lover (*le sigh)
Walk around the kids area with my camera and take truckloads of pics of the great installations everywhere

I added some pics from the pool there to my flickr account, go check 'em out.

Thanks so much for posting this! I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what the name of that park was. I'm hoping to take my son there when we visit this fall.
