Last night The Dirty Three played their second Tokyo show. Oh what a night!
The Dirty Three are still, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest live bands in the world. They played a cool mix of old and new, and the moment they started the sprawling epic Indian Love Song (second song in) I felt the earth warp and twist and suddenly I was standing at the Zoo in Brisbane and it was all another time and another place and I was surrounded by old friends on a steamy hot tropical summers eve and...well, it was all a bit emotional. But that's what the Dirty Three do. Dramatic, emotional, powerful stuff. And man, they rocked. My ears are still ringing...

During the show Warren asked for a translator so my friend Helen volunteered and spent the night attempting (most humorously) to translate his typically hilarious expletive-ridden between song rants to a wide eyed Japanese audience....(it was the bands first time playing in Japan) she did a pretty good job and had people coming up afterwards thanking her which totally added to her night.
Afterwards we hung out with Warren for a while and caught up on lots of Australian music news since the band just toured there. It was great to have a catch up yarn and I'm glad my friends made me go and say Hi coz I had been feeling kinda too shy to bother them. He's such a lovely guy, I'm happy that his life is working out so nicely for him these days.
The photo is of me, Warren, Helen and Charlene (my room mate). I felt like such a dork asking for a photo but hey, it was a special night.
