USGS Earthquake Hazards Program » Latest Earthquakes in the World - Last 7 days: This impressive website has a massive database of current and historical information about Earthquakes.
In light of recent events such as the tragic (and fearfully potentially volcanotastic) Mt Merapi quake, and the “whatever-you-do, don't-mention it” curse (activated during saturday night drinks with Christian and Yuiko) in which if there hasn't been a quake for a while and someone casually points that out then without fail it'll bring one on in a matter of days, I decided to take a look around the web for recent (and please-let-it-exist: future predictions) quake activity.... 205 quakes in the last week. Holy crap. Scary. Here is the Japan Meteorological Agency's quake page. At the time of writing it was looking pretty sparse. Just the way I like it. I'm quite sure it won't stay that way for long.....

Yes a bit scary indeed. But thanks for the heads up with this link - reminds me of geology classes I took many moons ago! I hear there was another sizeable earthquake in Tonga yesterday, so sounds like quite a bit of activity going on around the Pacific plate.

ya know i was just, merely seconds ago, thinking of those thingies that we are not gonna talk about...twas thinking along the lines that you were, but am not gonna say it - for i really do believe in the curse you speak of - and just as this thunder storm is hitting tokyo i am thinking how suckful it would be to be in an emergency evacuation area in an electrical storm...that's all i'm gonna say...

ya, i know what you mean. actually, i'd take a good, exciting electrical storm anyday but That Which Must Not Be Mentioned... sheesh! put the 2 together? it'd probably feel quite apocolyptic, ne. this afternoons storm seems to have passed without so much more than a couple o' rumbles. so the apocolypse has been diverted. for today... ;)

I love electrical storms...they remind me of home, because the storms back in Brisbane and the Gold Coast always light up the sky. But "That which must not be mentioned" is a little scary...it wasn't so much when I first was here, but now, with all the talk, and all the recent (ie. last couple of years) stuff that has happened in terms of natural disasters...well it is best not to think about it!
