Post-vacation blues

So here it is, midweek in my first week back from vacation. It's dauntingly cold. It's a wonder my turtles are still alive, but alive and thriving they are, yay.

Things are not great being back here, and I know you always have a certain amount of post-*great*-summer-vacation blues to contend with, but I really feel the need to completely overhaul my life here. It's just gotta change. Find a new, hopefully wonderful FULL TIME job so I can stop all this painful running around from company to school to coffee shop, find a new place to live. And I just gotta get out more. I live in this fabulously exciting city and never actually get out and enjoy it any more! Too much work and not enough play makes Marty a very dull fool.

Anyway, enough groaning, change is happening and not everything is miserable! I took this photo in Fiji on NYE - it was a large fake flower floating in the swimming pool and I was a *wee* bit tipsy (damn that Fiji Bitter is a fine drop) and got all arty with it and love the results. I made it my desktop wallpaper. Remarkably soothing, isn't it. I uploaded it at 1200 x 800 so please feel free to make it your wallpaper too.

I promise to try to get on with the holiday reports asap. I had such an amazing time and I really don't know where to start! But first of all, please head over to Pinku and read about Kat and Darins perfect wedding on Koh Chang. Actually, we had a great night out together in Bangkok last Friday night. After meeting up at a cool little bar, we headed over to the ever-notorious Khao San Rd where Kat and I did a spot of shopping. I loved Bangkok. And Fiji. But more on all that in another entry another time.

yes, I am feelin' those blues too. I hate the cold. Glad we met up in Bangkok and I can't wait to see you Fiji photos. Hopefully I'll get more of my Thai pics up tonight!!! Love the flower - I might just make it my wallpaper at work.

One of my very old friends, an Englishman with a Japanese wife told me many, many years ago that every time that you return from Japan you will suffer the post Japan blues.
I know Martine you have plans to leave Japan but I know it will be something that you regret in later years (mark my words).
Japan casts a spell over you in the most subtle ways and it is only the absence from them that will trigger that most horrible condition of the "post Japan blues".
I urge you to reconsider your plans when you are sober and try to stay where I am sure you are destined to feel at home.

The wallpaper is very soothing. Thank you. I know what you mean about the piece-meal work. It gets very tiring very quickly. Good luck in your search for a better job. :)

Thanks Kat. Can't wait to see the Thai pics.

Don, relax, I ain't going anywhere outside Japan for quite a while. I'm probably moving to a new house in Kichijoji, and most definately going to find a new full time job which will require a one year contract (at least) so.... ;)

Sam, thanks for the kind words.

Hi - another random passerby here. I live in Hyogo-ken and I love your blog, especially all the Tokyo photos.

And yes, doesn't being back in the freezing cold of Japanese winter really make adjusting to post-holiday reality that much harder?? Ganbatte ne. :)

OOOOOOhhhhhhhh, wish i could give you a big hug. I couldn't believe you were gone after you drove off with your dad that afternoon. You are so far away it's mind blowing really. Just make sure you get your life on track very soon and get that full time job happening asap. Otherwise you might get in a rut again and find it hard to change. love you darling

I totally agree with you! It´s the second week after vacation for me and I hate being back at work and vocational school. Also "too much work and not enough play" applies to me. I plan on going out more this year. Starting with a pretty cool record release concert today. Can´t wait to make 2005 an exciting year! :)
