Yesterday Amanda, Kat and I piled out of a taxi loaded up with bags and cases of old clothes and hauled them into the Pink Cow for the inaugural Tokyo Clothes swap. What a brilliant idea this event is!
About 50 foreign (yes, foreign sized) women brought their disused clothes, piled them onto tables according to sizes (all the way up to XXL) and then rummaged around for new stuff. What was left over was given to charity.
Everyone came away with some prize finds. My haul included a gorgeous sleek expensive grey business suit (donated by a very glamorous French woman who was bored with it), 2 pairs of stylin' winter (woollen) work pants, 2 wool skirts, 3 jumpers (sweaters to those Nth Americans reading), 1 black suit coat, 1 cool old brown leather jacket, 1 cool down jacket, 3 new work blouses, and a bunch of summer stuff for my holiday in Oz and Fiji. Oh, and a cool new handbag. There was heaps of stuff there and it saved me easily over 100 000 yen in new winter purchases (not that I could ever afford to spend that much on clothing in one season).
It was great fun meeting, chatting and being all girly-girl with lots of friendly new faces, too. A lot of fun all 'round. The next one is in Spring. I will be posting about it when it comes around.
