Testing times

Woohooo - looks like we're making some progress here in backend land... big thanks to my lovely server-hosts who have now extended their sponsorship deal to include more server space.

Seems that one of the problems was that I had chewed up most of my server space and my MT rebuilds didn't have enough room to completely do their thang. I am currently backing up my entire site (damn it's taking days) so that the more-than-capable-hired-help over at Moveable Type can upgrade my system to V. 3.1 (yes, the expensive-ish one that offers a whole host of cool services that I figure I'd enjoy the use of).

I do love that you can pay for someone else to install and upgrade, I just don't have the time for it. This week - exam time, I have been doing extra days at the schools, so I've been literally getting up at 7am, washing the sleep out of my eyes, throwing on the warmest clothes in my reach, running to the train station, teaching anywhere up to 10 classes a day and not returning home till after 9.30 every night.

A bit harsh after such a lovely birthday weekend. Yes, it was my birthday last Sunday. And way too much beer was consumed both on Saturday (Pinku's engagement party in Kichijoji) and Sunday night (my bday party at the Elephant Cafe).

I took this photo this afternoon, leaving the school where I'd been correcting and grading the first round of 360 Grade 10 English reports since 8.30 am. The kids are doing their end-term tests and it's interesting to observe the dramatically earnest change in communicative styles between teachers and panic-striken students. Anyway, the walk to and from the school to the nearest bus stop is always the highlight of my day as it involves a long stroll down this beautiful avenue. Right now, being late Autumn and all, it is looking particularly spectacular.

A solely singular thought is keeping me all genki through these testing times.... in only 12 sleeps I will be flying into summer, into the arms of family and friends I haven't seen for 2 years. Check out these gorgeous pics of where I'll be staying in Fiji for the week of New Years Eve.
