a drumming busker in shinjuku pours his angst into pounding those skins. a particularly apt photo for today - some days are harder than others in this great megalopolis i live in. today is a shitty day. yeah, i know, it's my own fault. i've been burning the candle at both ends. and i'm totally pre-menstrual. but damn, it's really really hard to live and work in a foreign country.

Anyone who is wondering where Martine is going, it is a small island south of Tokyo in the Seven Islands of Isu. It is called Shikine Island and is about 10 hours by ferry from Tokyo. Let us hope she has a good time there and comes back refreshed and uncomplaining. Half her luck.
