omedeto gozaimasu kurisu-chan to yu-chan!!!

i had a bloody great phone call this morning.

christian and i used to work at the zoo together. he moved to japan about 6 months before i did and took me on my first drinking tour of shinjuku (in kabukicho), introduced me to yoyogi park and showed me how to use the ticket machines and get around tokyo. he is, like me, totally solar powered and hated life in gloomy, cold tokyo [hard to imagine winter in this 2 month burst of heat]. he took a teaching job on the lovely subtropical ogasawara islands 1000 km's south of tokyo.

about a month or so before he moved (april/may 2003), he met yuiko. she is a really cool artist. he went all gooey in a bad way. the night before he left they spent their first night together, the next day at the boat there were tears. it's been hard work, but somehow, they have survived the massive distance and the expensive commute. chris is in tokyo for a few weeks, and he and yuiko headed off to the fuji rock festival last weekend.

he proposed to her at the festival, on friday. she said yes. woohoooooooo.

congratulations chris and yuiko! i'm madly happy for you! it's perfect.

i took the top photo at our new years eve party in nishi-shiroi, chiba. the second pic was the day after.... the recovery lounge party at amanda's place in chiba.

Ah Roger.
This is the man who I spent far too much time with mulling over the evils of marraige and the strange concept of having a 'husband' and 'wife'.
But i'm willing to warm up to the idea just for you, if it means you stay as happy as you are now. and if it means that you keep that brilliantly wondorous little chicky yuiko sama in your life and mine.
I love you both. And i wish you all the happiness in the world.

congrats to the lovely couple! Your Brisneyland friends are so happy for you Xtian. It is just like you to have to go half way around the world to meet the right girl, but look at how wonderful the effort was.
